Crafty projects took a long summer hiatus here at Hometown Betty, as you can tell with our summer long travel posts (See Indiana and Ohio). A lot of it had to do with our basement flooding, causing us to put some tender love and care to what felt like an unused space into a usable piece of real estate. Of course, this also meant that arts and craft supplies were thrown into closets around the house and plastic storage bins in random corners of our living room or dining room.
Now that school is back in session, I am slowly pulling out card sock paper, scavenging for sewing supplies, and what not. It’s also that time of year when I am deep into Halloween costume projects and Piano Man’s birthday celebration.
Last year’s Legends of Chima party was a doozy. I barely scraped by with all the handmade party decorations and DIY LEGO-inspired Laval and Leonidas costumes. All summer I kept hinting that it would be nice to spend a quiet evening with just the four of us on Piano Man’s birthday. Piano Man took the hint, but he too had a heart warming agenda.
He hinted that it would be nice to have a birthday party with his buddies. It didn’t even have to have a topic (aka theme).
The thought intrigued me. I liked the idea of hosting a birthday party for Piano Man’s class because:
1. It instills a stronger bond with his classmates.
2. It gives parents the chance to get to know one another.
3. Piano Man’s school seeks to build community.
I was hooked. Plus, I love our Piano Man. And who could say no to that?
His latest craze is all about Star Wars. Apparently it’s a right of passage for many boys ages 6-12 all around the globe. Star Wars birthday party ideas are in the hundreds as many other blogging parents share the same sentiment. After a little research, I decided it wouldn’t be too crazy to make some paper crafts or decorations for Piano Man’s semi-Star Wars themed party. I say semi because why reinvent the wheel when many of these amazing bloggers created such fantastic food party platters, decorations, and clever games to make it a unique one-of-a-kind party. I did add some twists to some creative DIYs to make Piano Man’s party his own, so get ready for some action-packed, Jedi-worthy DIY Star Wars party decorations.
Let the party planning begin! (a little DIY teaser….)
