We’re well into the fall season here in the beautiful and very chilly Midwest. Our friends in Cyprus share how the weather is warm and toasty halfway around the globe, while we’re diligently copying the hard work ethics of Charlie Brown in “Peanuts” on a cool autumn day.
If I remember this episode correctly, Snoopy is helping Charlie Brown rake up the last leaf into a nice large mound. And just when you think Snoopy’s all done being a good helpful four-pawed companion, he jumps in the pile of leaves wrecking all that hard work.
Yesterday, the boys watched us work on raking thousands of leaves that had fallen from our oak tree in our backyard. It was icy cold with the strong winds, and so they opted to stay inside while we did the hard work. However, today, the boys decided to become one with the leaves since the weather warmed up and because we created a huge mound of leaves ready for removal, just like the Peanuts pics shown above.
The boys went to town on those leaves, widening the circumference of my pile. But once I saw the look on their faces, how could I deny them the joy of autumn? I’ll admit that a part of me cringed when I saw Linus move a tiny pile of leaves from one end of the yard to the other. One leaf fell, then two, until finally he dropped his tiny pile onto the ground. He continued this process until he met his goal of smashing his small pile into a tiny hole somewhere in our yard.
Piano Man, too, was hard at play!
As a Friday afternoon treat, we opened up our last pack of Cyprus’ famous Morning Coffee, a favorite of ours during our stint in Cyprus.
Then more play! What a way to end our week! Have a restful and fun weekend, y’all!
Wanna see the end result from four hours of raking (with no mower or blower)?
