We’ve got this beautiful softwood coffee table. It’s meant to be loved and cherished, but we also have a beautiful race car loving kid who loves to play on the coffee table.
A) Leave the coffee table exposed to the elements.
B) Instruct our children to never touch or use the coffee table for its intended purpose.
C) Make a coffee table cover!
What’s a girl to do?
Well, I can live with the gentle dings and dents as part of life, but who am I kidding? Imagining “Everybody Loves Raymond” and Raymond’s mom who covered everything in her house, I think I can do one better and make coverings that are functional and stylish at the same time.
I don’t know what inspired me to use another remnant fabric piece (with lots of color and design), but when I placed the fabric piece over our coffee table, the length and width fit perfectly. I added handmade bias tape (also made from remnant fabric), so that I didn’t have to lose length at the hem.
I have to admit after making this that I actually love it! It’s so nice to add a pop of color to the house without painting my walls (although, that is on my long list of house to-do’s).
Voila! Project complete!
So what are you covering up lately?
