If you read yesterday’s tutorial on How to make a Chima Chest Plate, today’s post will demonstrate how to make LEGO hands for kids. This post is a slight variation of Cenzi’s LEGO Man Costume for kids post. To make things easier, I have provided two templates for a size 5-6 and 2T-3T hands.
– Styrofoam block
– White duct tape (NOTE: You can change the color of your LEGO hands to Yellow duct tape, but for Legends of Chima characters, they have white LEGO hands.)
– Packaging tape
– Box cutter or Electric carving knife
– Download LEGO Hands for Kids Template (sizes 5-6 and
sizes 2T-3T) here
Step 1. Download and print LEGO Hands for Kids Template.
Step 2. Trace, cut four LEGO hands from template onto cardboard.
Step 3. Trace and cut four “letter C” LEGO hands from template onto styrofoam. Note: The sharper the blade or saw, the easier it is to cut through the styrofoam.
Step 4. Sandwich two pieces of styrofoam between two pieces of cardboard to make one LEGO hand.
Step 5. Cut two rectangles in the following dimensions: 3″x10* for size 5-6, 2″x8″ for size 2T.
Step 6. Cut a line at base of “letter C” part of LEGO hands and cuffs. Curl the edges inward on both sides.
Step 7. Curl rectangular pieces to create a cuff for LEGO hands. Using clear packaging tape, secure rectangular pieces to edges of “letter C” hands.
Step 8. Cut an opening at the base of the styrofoam, where it meets at the cuff. Make sure the opening is large enough for child’s hands to fit through cuff.
Step 9. Begin wrapping LEGO hand with white duct tape.
Step 10. At some point, you can cut layers of white duct tape to smooth out edges of LEGO hands.
Step 11. Voila! Project complete! You now have two LEGO hands for kid’s Halloween Costumes.
